The reputation of wines in Hungary is good all over the world. As a legacy of history, the wine is of good quality. The grape varieties are local or come from France and Germany (Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay). There are officially 22 wine-growing regions in Hungary but we can simplify by selecting only four, those corresponding to the four most typical wines.
The most famous of the wines is in the north-eastern part of Hungary, along the Slovak border in Tokaj. The wines of Tokaj are excellent sweet wines, late harvest whites.
