Although the Terra Alta region is vast, this appellation is an unknown to most wine lovers. It is the southernmost wine region of Catalonia, past the Ebro river, in the direction of Valencia and Teurel.
As its name suggests, the region is relatively high in altitude, at an average of 500 meters, a situation that produces full-bodied wines, but with enough freshness. In total, more than 9,000 ha are planted, mainly with white grapes for local use. As with many other Catalan appellations, the new generations are also beginning to bottle their wine under their own name.
In white wines, the main grape variety is Garnatxa Blanca, which still plays the main role.
