The red Beaujolais is produced in the Beaujolais vineyard, in the east of France. The Gamay grape variety is the only main grape variety that can be used to make red Beaujolais wine.
The red Beaujolais has the French AOC label as well as the European AOP label. Fruity and cherry-colored, with pleasant tannins, it is a particularly well-balanced wine. After a manual harvest, a maceration of 7 to 8 days, and a maturing of about 6 months (bottled in April-May), its conservation will be about 5 years.
