Did you know that the city of Saumur was already a wine trading center in the 12th century thanks to its location on the banks of the Loire River? Today, this vineyard of the Loire Valley has kept its letters of nobility thanks to the AOC Appellation Saumur Rouge. The vineyard of the Saumur Rouge extends on a characteristic tuffeau chalk terroir. The Saumur Rouge wines have a ruby to garnet red color, particularly luminous. It is one of the great names of the Anjou Saumur wine region: the largest vineyard in the Loire Valley.
For the AOC Saumur Rouge, Cabernet Franc is used at more than 90%. Only blends with Cabernet Sauvignon and Pineau d'Auris are authorized. Cabernet Franc is a grape variety used exclusively for winemaking and produces fruity and smooth red wines with a certain aging capacity depending on the method of maturation.
