The vineyards of the Baleares cover only a few thousand hectares. With its typically Mediterranean climate tempered by maritime influences and its lean sedimentary soils, the islands have conditions that are rather favourable for wine-growing.
They can also count on a handful of local grape varieties with an increasingly well-exploited potential, such as Manto Negro, often blended with continental varieties. The best wines of the Baleares Islands come from its two DOs, both located in Mallorca, the main island.
