Margaux is the only communal AOC in the Haut-Médoc to bear the name of a "Premier Grand Cru Classé". Its area covers five communes: Margaux, Cantenac, Labarde, Soussans and Arsac.
The appellation, which selects the best soils, has some of the most beautiful gravelly crests in the whole of Bordeaux. These impart to the margaux their great aromatic finesse, harmony and aptitude for ageing.
