One of the ten Beaujolais crus, it is bordered to the north by the windmill, to the south by the morgon and to the west by the chiroubles. Included within the limits of the commune of Fleurie, the vineyard is sheltered from westerly winds by the Beaujolais mountains. It extends to the foot of the chapel of the Madonna, at 425 m altitude. Gamay is rooted in a sandy soil resulting from the disintegration of pink granite. These light hillside soils produce wines that are remarkable for their finesse: it is often presented as the most feminine of the Beaujolais crus, even if the parcels of land on granite or on the deeper, clayey soils at the bottom of the slope produce full-bodied wines.
