"around 1880, jacques lignier bought some vineyard plots in morey-st-denis, in the heart of the côte de nuits, where we still are today. from father to son, the business was passed on: jules took over, then henri, then hubert. in the 1960s, the estate was extended to 8 hectares. in 1992, romain lignier joined his father, but died suddenly in 2004. in 2006, his brother laurent took over the business, with both commercial and technical expertise and always with the help of his father. a new winery is built in morey-st-denis, in grand cèdre. the father-son duo, hubert and laurent lignier, cultivate 9 ha to create 24 appellations (burgundy, village, premier and grand cru). our vineyards have been ploughed since the early 1990s, excluding all herbicides and insecticides. (the ligniers select the harvest dates for their négociant parcels): moderately saturated medium red. expressive aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, smoked meat and underbrush; this finished its malolactic fermentation early and is ready for a racking. smooth and easygoing in the mouth but showing modest acidity and less primary fruit character than the trilogie. supple tannins will not get in the way of early consumption. a wine of modest depth; the sandy soil here resulted in significant hydric stress and the crop was down 40% from normal."
