"between pommard in the north and meursault in the south, volnay is located at 275 m altitude: this narrow and steep village occupies a rather high position in the coast. leaning against the small mountain of chaignot, the vineyard is implanted on limestone soils exposed to the south-east. volnay is considered a feminine, sweet and subtle wine: the finest red wine of the côte de beaune. it is quite early. bright, the colour is bright red, but it can go as far as dark garnet. ruby flames are often seen. the fresh and light aromas tend towards vegetal and flowery notes (violet, the classic aroma of the burgundy red wine, or rose). touches of red fruit (raspberry, gooseberry) or black fruit (blackberries) are also noticeable. volnay is a real seducer thanks to its light, fruity mouth. in many cases, raw volnay shows more concentration and elegance than volnay, but these nuances depend a great deal on areas and years."
