pares balta is a family-owned winery located in the penedes region of spain. the winery has been in operation since the late 1700s and is now run by the 5th generation of the cusine family. pares balta has a commitment to sustainable agriculture, and their vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic. mas irene is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. the 2009 vintage is a magnum-sized bottle, which is twice the size of a regular bottle. the wine has a deep red color and a complex nose with aromas of black fruit, spices, and vanilla. on the palate, the wine is full-bodied with firm tannins and flavors of black currant, blackberry, and a hint of oak. the wine has been aged in french oak barrels for 16 months and has the potential to age for several more years. it should be stored in a cool, dark place.
