The smallest appellation in Catalonia, of barely 300 ha. This beautiful region is located north of Barcelona. As a result of the sprawling extension of this large city, the area of cultivation continues to shrink. Indeed, investors are more inclined to opt for real estate than for vineyards on these beautiful hills with a view of the sea. Yet this region has a long tradition. The sweet white wine of "Maresme" already had a good reputation in the Middle Ages with the clergy of Barcelona.
Today there are only 3 wineries left that produce good wine, especially Cava according to the traditional method. Its taste is mainly determined by the poor subsoil, which here consists of "Sauló" or crushed granite of a very light color.
