The Vin de Pays de l'Hérault has the departmental denomination of vin de pays. It groups together 28 appellations of local wines of the area, which are part of the regional name Vin de pays d'Oc. Two thirds of the production of Hérault wines is made up of wines from the same appellation. The grape varieties are typically Mediterranean for the reds with : cinsault, grenache, syrah, carignan, complemented by cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
The wines of the hinterland are rather reds, such as Val de Montferrand, Bérange and Bénobie. They are powerful wines but also recall the freshness of the sea.
