There is not only red wine in Bordeaux. For more than a millennium, Bordeaux has known how to make whites. In fact, until the mid-1970s, the production of Bordeaux whites was higher than that of reds. Because dry or sweet, Bordeaux white wines require a rigorous know-how, which is transmitted from generation to generation in the vineyard.
Most Bordeaux white wines are made from blends of Sauvignon, Semillon and sometimes a hint of Muscadelle. Very aromatic, round and lively, sauvignon is the star grape variety of these blends. The fresh, chalky or clayey soils of the region are ideal for it. It also appreciates the temperate climate, mild winters and luminous summers which do not risk altering its aromatic potential.
As for Semillon, it is used in dry white wines as well as in sweet wines. By its qualities, this variety is complementary to Sauvignon, to which it brings a certain roundness and floral touches during blending.
