Formerly covered with wheat fields, the Swartland region has turned to producing intense and vigorous red wines based on Syrah and has specialized in the cultivation of Rhodalian grape varieties in South Africa.
On the west coast of the country, the immense district of Swartland extends to the north of the Cape Peninsula, 50 kilometers from the metropolis Swartland means "the black country" because this territory is covered with hills where dark colored bushes bloom.
Vine planting sites are carefully selected because Swartland is a region characterized by its heat and drought. Indeed, due to the dry soil, the vines produce small grapes with a high concentration of aromas and flavors. The producers obtain generous and powerful wines.
Syrah is the most widespread grape variety in the region; blended with Mourvèdre and Grenache, it allows the production of high quality blended wines.
