Walker Bay is a famous tourist area in South Africa, especially for its whale watching sites in Hermanus. Today, it is also attractive thanks to its flourishing viticulture and its wines that arouse the curiosity of wine lovers from all over the world.
In the Overberg district, the Walker Bay area is located east of Cape Town. Walker Bay is one of the coolest regions in South Africa. The soils are well drained and not very fertile which allows for high quality grapes. They produce the lowest yields of small grapes with a high concentration of flavours and aromas.
Walker Bay is known for its production of quality Black Pinots, among the best in the country. They are round and powerful wines, with a style quite similar to the Pinot de Bourgogne.
