This geographical name of the Languedoc appellation was raised in 2015 to the rank of "appellation communale" for its red wines (80%). La Clape, in Occitan, means "heap of stones". Island until the 14th century, this limestone massif forms a barrier separating the coast from Narbonne.
The wines benefit from a very sunny Mediterranean climate, almost semi-arid, maritime air and numerous winds that keep the rains away. The appellation concerns seven communes, including Narbonne. For red wines, the main ones are grenache, mourvèdre, syrah, adapted to the heat.
