clau de nell is first and foremost a story rich in human adventure. it all started with a company called clac, which was created by anne-claude leflaive, her husband christian jacques and the famous soil microbiologists claude and lydia bourguignon in 2006. the idea was to help french biodynamic winemakers export their wines abroad. in 2006, anne claude and christian met the owners of domaine clau de nell. a high potential estate, located in ambillou château in the loire, on a terroir of clay, flint and tuffeau. magnificent vines with an average age of 60 years, some of which are a hundred years old. eight hectares of cabernet franc, grolleau and also cabernet sauvignon. 2008 was a complicated period for the young owner couple. in view of the potential of the vines and the terroir, and of the biodynamic cultivation since 2000, anne-claude and christian decided to help them, and to buy the estate to overcome the bankruptcy. after an intense year, the couple decided to leave and turn to another life. in 2009, sylvain potin joined the team as a manager, having gained experience in the world of biodynamics. in 2012, 1.5 hectares of chenin were planted. in 2018, another 1.5 hectares of chenin. in 2020, christian is still at the head of the estate, his daughter claire has joined the adventure to share her passion for tasting through the sale and representation of the domaine. sylvain is still the estate manager, accompanied by cyril in the vineyard. nose on pretty notes of red berries and spices. the attack in mouth is fine and greedy with a lot of freshness thanks to the tuffeau. the tannins are silky and refined. the finish is persistent and full of freshness.
