Within the Fleurieu Peninsula, McLaren Vale is Australia's most important wine region, with wines that are renowned in Australia and around the world. This wine region takes its name from the town of McLaren Vale, in the suburbs of Adelaide.
The climate is Mediterranean, with ocean winds and coolness from the nearby mountains. McLaren Vale's land has soils with local specificities (sand, sandy marl, limestone, red clay...), which allows it to have a very varied wine production.
The region mainly produces red wines based on Syrah, Grenache or Cabernet Sauvignon which have black fruit aromas and round and ripe tannins. The century-old Syrah and Grenache vines produce wines that are sought after for their depth and complexity. They produce small quantities of highly concentrated grapes.
