The AOC Viré-Clessé is produced on the vineyard of the same name, which occupies 385 hectares of two hillsides located on one of the most oriental ranges of the Mâconnais area. The plots benefit from an eastern exposure, and are located at an altitude of between 200 and 440 meters.
On the main ridge, they are composed of entangled limestone from the Bajocian and marly limestone strata from the Jurassic. The soils of the second slope are made of "chaille" clays, i.e. well-draining sandstone pebbles. The production here reaches 19,000 hectoliters of wine each year. These reliefs give the Chardonnay a terroir that is very favorable to it.
This grape variety reveals here all its most characteristic aromas, with a dominance of acacia flower, hazelnut and lime blossom, and, with age, the appearance of more mineral notes. The robe of these whites is pale gold, very luminous. On the palate, they are lively and fresh, round and at the same time slightly pointed. These whites have good ageing potential even if they can be consumed young. It is advisable to drink them during the first 6 years.
