The 450 producers of the Corsican vineyard are spread over four large geological regions. The soils of the west are predominantly granitic while the east benefits from numerous varieties of schist. In the north-west, limestone is king. Finally, on the east coast, one observes a beautiful quantity of clay or silica-clay soils.
Almost 7,000 hectares of vines for about 2,500 hectares in AOC, Corsica is defined through singular expressions. With a first AOC Corsica obtained in 1975, Corsica counts today 9 of them and one IGP.
The Nielluciu, is the star grape variety of the Corsican wines of Patrimonio. Declined in red, this insular type of vine is appreciated for its aromatic intensity and the structure which it brings to wines. Aromas of red fruits, the Nielluciu produced in the Patrimonio red version is greedy, fleshy and spicy on the palate.
Sciaccarellu is the second most important black grape variety.
