The AOC Chinon sees its appellation area located at 40km southeast of Tours, so it belongs to the sub-region. 112,000 hectoliters of juice per year are produced on 2,350 hectares of vineyard backed by the cliff bordering the Vienne River.
Close to the Loire River, the soils have characteristics that have repercussions on the type of wines. It is then common to speak of "gravel wines" and "tuff wines".
The red wines for which Chinon is famous offer a wide choice of juices, from the simplest to the richest, and are mainly made from Cabernet Franc. Rarely, the Cabernet Sauvignon can be associated with them in a proportion of less than 10%. The gravel wines reveal all their finesse and delicacy as they age, because when young, they are dominated by their fruit. Full-bodied and powerful, these colorful red wines have a very good ageing potential.
