The AOC Côtes-du-Rhône is the regional appellation that has defined since 1937 the wines produced in the entire Rhone Valley. Since then, it has been approved by numerous local and communal AOCs distinguishing precise terroirs or specificities of production. It produces on 42,000 hectares of vines, scattered over 171 communes and 6 departments.
The vines dedicated to this appellation are dominated by Grenache (40% minimum) for the reds, Syrah is also very present throughout the southern part.
Numerous complementary grape varieties (Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Terret, ...) can be used to address local soil and climate issues, as the appellation can be produced on almost all the terroirs of the Rhone Valley. Matured in barrels or in vats, the Côtes-du-Rhône thus offers a wide variety of wines, often at affordable prices. We find light, fruity reds with a nervous attack.
