The Somontano appellation was created in 1984. With a surface area of over 140,000 ha at the end of the 19th century, it had almost disappeared. Today, after a profound restructuring, Somontano wines are produced from vines planted on 4,700 ha around the city of Barbastro (province of Huesca).
In the Somontano appellation, 13 grape varieties are authorized. For the red wines of Somontano, we have the international classics such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, but also Tempranillo and Grenache or local varieties such as Parraleta and Moristel. The wines of Somontano are elaborated according to the current tastes of the consumers, the reds are well rounded, on the fruit and the whites are on the freshness and very aromatic.
