Tarragona is a Spanish wine, it belongs to the vineyards of Catalonia and is located in the province of Tarragona. The name of the appellation comes from the city of Tarragona. From the Tarakon of the Greeks to the Tarraco of the Romans. It ages at least 60 months, 24 months of which are spent in oak barrels.
This is how the "Gran Reserva" wine acquires its full character and intense ruby red color.
The geographical area is divided into two zones: that of the northwest, on the Mediterranean Sea in the comarques of Alt Camp, Baix Camp and Tarragonès, and that of the comarca of Ribera d'Ebre, the banks of the Ebro river in French, which enters deeper into the interior. Tarragona has a Mediterranean climate that favors the good ripening of the grapes.
The red Tarragona grape variety combines the traditional regional grape varieties: ull de llebre noir (local name for black tempranillo), samso noir (local name for black carignan), Grenache noir or black sumoll and the French grape varieties introduced at the end of the 20th century: cabernet sauvignon noir, merlot noir, pinot noir or syrah noir.
