The AOC Bellet appellation covers about 650 hectares, of which about 50 hectares are under cultivation. The vineyard is entirely located on the territory of the commune of Nice and today counts about fifteen family farms. Among the famous vintages of the Bellet appellation, we can mention the Château de Bellet, the Château de Crémat, the Domaine Saint Jean or the Clos Saint Vincent.
The vines of Bellet are rooted in narrow beds called "Restanques" made up of rolled pebbles mixed with very clear sand with some clay veins. The particular climatic conditions favour a slow maturation process which is essential for the freshness and elegance of the white wines.
The decree of the appellation of Bellet wine, authorizes a certain number of grape varieties. For the white wines, the winegrowers mainly use Rolle, a typical Nice plant that makes up more than 80% of the production, Chardonnay being used for the rest. Bellet red and rosé wines are made with Folle Noire or Braquet and to a lesser extent with Grenache and Cinsault. At Bellet, the harvest is done by hand, towards the end of September.
