"managed since 1985 by hubert de boüard de laforest, angélus has belonged to his family since 1782 when jean de boüard de laforest, the king's bodyguard, settled in saint-emilion. the château takes its name from the fact that in the past, the angelus could be heard ringing from the bells of the mazerat chapel and those of the churches of saint-martin and saint-emilion at that very spot. in 1954, at the time of the first classification of saint-emilion, château angélus was classified grand cru. the estate certainly enjoys an exceptional terroir but also shows the importance of man's imprint on the land: before 1980, the wines, rich and fruity, lacked elegance; subsequently, viticulture and vinification methods were considerably improved under the impetus of hubert de boüard, allowing the estate to outstrip many of its saint-emilion peers in terms of quality. in fact, at the last classification review of the appellation in 2012, angélus reached the highest step of the podium, becoming a premier cru classé ""a"" alongside châteaux cheval blanc, ausone and pavie. green harvest in july, maturation in new oak barrels, fermentation in stainless steel tanks with temperature control system, no filtration at bottling. today, it is the new generation (the 8th) that has joined the management of the estate with stéphanie de boüard-rivoal, daughter of hubert de boüard (since 2012) and her cousin thierry grenié-de boüard, son of jean-bernard grenié (since 2016). the wine combines power and refinement with the expression of intense and greedy notes of ripe fruits (cherry, blackcurrant, fig). the mouth is straight, precise and of great elegance. the tannins are velvety. "
