Many vineyards take advantage of the microclimates to produce exceptional wines. When these climates are combined with beautiful landscapes like in Cafayate, it makes the experience even more unique.
Cafayate is located in the north of Argentina, at an altitude of almost 1700 meters. This makes for a rather unique landscape, with vineyards situated in the middle of high mountains. Despite the fact that the climate is desert, the temperatures are not extremely hot, ranging between 10°C and 21°C throughout the year. These daily variations in temperature allow both to give very developed aromas thanks to the heat of the days, as well as thicker grape skins giving wines that are quite full-bodied thanks to the coolness of the nights.
This microclimate that Cafayate possesses makes it possible to exploit the white grape variety of Torrontés in the best possible way. Indeed, it can resist the harmful effects of strong sun exposure and the altitude allows it to be cultivated well. Considered by some to be a grape variety specific to the Argentinean terroir, Torrontés is still the subject of debate as others consider it to be a derivative of Spanish Muscat. Its very fruity taste and very expressive aromas have not always been unanimously accepted. A few years ago, this grape variety had a low-end image. But investments were made in its vinification and Torrontés is now recognized throughout Argentina.
